Texas Advantage Named “Club Of The Year”

Alamo 16s Earn “Team of the Year” Honor

July 25 — Texas Advantage, which qualified 10 teams including four in Open for the national championships, captures the 2004 Texas “Club of the Year” honor presented by LoneStarVolleyball.com. The award is designed to recognize clubs for their success at all age levels in qualifying for the Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships and their performance on the national stage. TAV edged the past two winners of the award, Alamo and Austin Juniors, in the race for "Club of the Year" honors.

Alamo 16 Kaepa, which battled injuries all year but won the Tour of Texas championship and captured the state's only Open medal at the national championships, is LoneStarVolleyball’s "Team of the Year." It is the second year in a row for the Alamo squad to win the award.

Since the ultimate goal of a club is to win a national championship, rankings are based on a formula in which teams are awarded 4 points for qualifying an Open team at the national championships, 2 points for qualifying a team in the National Club division and 1 point for qualifying a team in the American Club division. Bonus points are awarded for medals or Top 8 finishes. For example, a team winning a silver or bronze medal in the National Club division would earn four points (two for qualifying and two for the medal), the equivalent of a team qualifying to compete in the Open division.

TAV, which qualified four Open teams, four National teams, two American teams and had a Top 8 finish, earned 27 points. Austin Juniors, which also sent 10 teams including four in Open, finished with 25 points. Alamo, with only eight teams, also finished with 25 points thanks to four medal performances and two more Top 8 finishes.
