Alamo 16s stumble, Tornados 18s and Austin 17s roll on at Tour Feb. 29 – Alamo Kaepa's domination of the 16s division came to a brief halt at the Willowbrook stop on the Tour of Texas this weekend. Alamo fell to Austin Juniors in a 28-26, 21-25, 15-13 battle Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Austin's earlier loss to South Shore Mizuno, however, Alamo still won its pool then swept Texas Tornados in a cross match 25-22, 27-25 to maintain the top position heading into the final stop March 27-28 in College Station. In 18s play, the Gold Bracket is set after the Tornados swept the Division 1 pool that included Team Texas, Hit-Away and Centex. All four teams remain in Gold and will be joined by Austin Juniors Mizuno and Willowbrook Molten who completed their climb back into the top group after stumbling at the Tour qualifier. Austin won the Division 2 pool, going 3-0, and Willowbrook Molten finished second at 2-1. Filling out the Gold Bracket will be Dallas Summit, coming off a strong finish at Las Vegas, and AMV Tylers. AMV won its Division 3 pool 3-0 to to advance to gold. Summit, meanwhile, had a little tougher road, finishing in a three-way tie in its pool with Alamo and South Shore forcing a series of one-game playoff matches to 15. South Shore knocked out Alamo 15-11 then Summit, which had lost to South Shore in pool play, gained revenge with an dominating 15-4 win to claim the final Gold spot. In 17s play, Austin Juniors went 3-0 in Division 1 pool play to maintain the Tour's top position. Pool opponents Alamo Kaepa, Texas Tornados Nike and AIM Kaepa will all remain in Gold for the College Station stop. Advancing to Gold from Pool 2 will be AMV Nemesis (3-0) and Willowbrook Molten (2-1). Rounding out the Gold Bracket will be Texas Juniors DFW (3-0) and Club Texas, which was pushed to the limit by Willowbrook's #2 team, but survived in five (15-11). In 16s play, Division 1 for College Station is set with Alamo, Texas Tornados, Willowbrook Molten (which swept Austin Juniors for the second time in as many Tour stops) and Austin. Joining the D1 party will be AMV Roshambo, which knocked off South Shore in a cross match; Club Texas, which needed three to advance against Willowbrook's #2 Select team; along with AIM Miguel and Houston Juniors coming out of Division 2..
