Jan. 11 — Texas Tornados qualified two teams and came within two points of adding a third in the 18s Division of the Tour of Texas Qualifier Sunday. Meanwhile, Team Texas, Hit-Away and Club Texas also won their Gold Brackets to join the Tornados as top qualifiers.

Texas Tornados Nike won a showdown with Austin Mizuno 25-21, 25-20 in the opening round of Gold bracket play then swept North Dallas 25-24, 25-12 to earn a top seed on the Tour. Team Texas knocked off Austin Metro 25-12, 25-17 and Houston Juniors 25-13, 20-25, 15-12 to earn another top seed. Club Texas beat Dallas Summit and South Shore to earn the third top seed. Hit-Away beat Texas Tornados Dan 25-10, 22-25, 15-13 then outlasted Centex in a wild 25-23, 14-25, 18-16 match for the other top seed. Winners of each bracket qualified as top seeds in Division 1 and runners up in each bracket qualified as #2 seeds in Division 1.

In the challenge matches to determine Division 2 qualifiers, Austin Metro swept Texas Assault, Texas Tornados Dan swept Dallas Skyline National, Dallas Summit defeated Texas Juniors, Alamo eliminated Texas Advantage, Austin Juniors held off a strong effort by Texas Riptide, Texas Juniors outlasted East Texas Juniors in three and Willowbrook Molten had to fight back from a first game loss then hold off a spirited effort by Texas Tornados Tasha, but won in three (15-13).

According to Austin Juniors officials, a list of qualified teams in all age groups will be posted on the Tour of Texas web site tonight and complete results will be posted later in the week.
