UIL Council takes no action on 4th playoff team, boys volleyball

Oct. 20 — There will be no fourth playoff team in 2004.

After reviewing results of the survey of superintendents conducted this fall regarding adding a fourth team to the team sports playoff structure, the Legislative Council of the University Interscholastic League took no action on the issue in Austin over the weekend.

According to the UIL, 65% of the respondents to the survey did not favor allowing a fourth team in volleyball, football, basketball, soccer, softball, and baseball to advance to the playoffs.

In other action involving volleyball, the Legislative Council:

• voted to alter the first available dates for volleyball scrimmages and games; and
• did not approve adding boys volleyball as a UIL sanctioned event.

All UIL rule changes are effective August 1, 2004 if approved by the Commissioner of Education.
